Bus services across the city are being cut. Residents from all over Newport have been in touch with their concerns and how the cuts will limit their ability to get around, especially in the evenings when the most severe cuts are happening. Read more

St Julians by-election

Sadly on Wednesday 4th May, Cllr Ed Townsend passed away. Under his guidance he energised what was a very old and staid local party into the dynamic organisation that went from no council seats in 1999 to 10 in 2008 and a share in the running of Newport City Council. He brought to the local party a professionalism in campaigning: Focus newsletters were written and delivered all year round, new members and prospective councillors were recruited, knock and drop questionnaires, web pages, use of canvas data, etc. Indeed from 1999 until March 2016 Ed must have written something like 250 focuses. In a political party where most people use 10 words when one would do, over-intellectualise everything, his background in local journalism resulted in clear and concise prose, something most of us can only dream of. You can read details of the impact he had on Newport here.

Soon there will be a by election in the ward. It is a three member ward and Ed Townsend was the only one of our candidates to hold onto his seat in 2012, wining by only one vote after three recounts. We are going to need all the help we can to hold on to the seat in his memory.

As you can imagine our finances as a local party are tight after the Welsh Assembly election and any donation you could give to help us fight this by election would be greatly received.
